"2008" is a short film following a young girl navigating her dysfunctional queer household as
California voted to repeal gay marriage during the 2008 election.

The story was inspired by the childhood of its writer and director, Maya
Weldon-Lagrimas, and offers a child’s account of the personal and political conflicts
that permeated her world in the election year of 2008.
The film offers a quirky and fresh look at non-traditional families through a mix of
live-action and animated storytelling. Instead of over-romanticizing queerness or
progressive political movements, “2008” reflects the truth that LGBTQIA+ families
have lived: life is messy, chock-full of existential questions, but garnished with a
sprinkle of hope.
